Barrio Food Truck
Mobile App Design
This project was the first of three peer graded projects through the Google Coursera UX Design professional certificate course. The idea for this fictional project came from an experience that I had trying to order food at my local outdoor music venue. I waited SO LONG that I ended up missing a lot of the music. I know I can’t always be the ideal user, but I wanted to take the opportunity to try and solve a problem many people experience. The goal was to create a menu and ordering app for my favorite food truck for someone who may be mobility impaired or simply doesn’t have time or want to wait in line to order food.
MOBILE APP
Experience the user flow with the Figma example.
The main goal of the user is to successfully order food. That is supported with the big “Start Order” button near the bottom of the page. This brings the user to the food menu. Icons can help find a specific food item. Based on my user research, I found that users only like having 10-15 items to choose from on a mobile ordering app. By clicking on an item, the user gets the item’s description and options to choose from. Finish the flow to checkout. Order confirmation will pop up with an estimated time. As the user, wait for 6 seconds to simulate the next action. The next action is to alert the user their food is ready. This function is intended to simulate a restaurant pager that would beep, vibrate and flash to notify the user. These actions would help a user get notified that is visually or hearing impaired either situationally or permanently.
Barrio Food Truck is an existing restaurant and food truck in my home town. The visual design inspiration came from the graphics of their actual food truck. I wanted to create this project as if I were creating for a real client and keep their branding consistent.
